Steve Bays took on the task of designing a modern, efficient, and visually appealing office layout for the Taylor Wimpey London headquarters in Brentwood, Essex. The project required a workspace that was not only functional but also reflective of Taylor Wimpey’s brand commitment to quality and customer service.

Project Brief
The office layout had to embody a bright and contemporary aesthetic while prioritizing functionality and organization. Key requirements included:

Desk designs needed to be seamless, with concealed cabling to ensure a clean and clutter-free appearance. Each workstation required easy access to power outlets and the ability to support multiple monitors, laptops, and other equipment.
The layout strategically included high-capacity storage units along the office perimeter and low-profile storage closer to specific departments. Low units were angled to discourage the accumulation of loose papers, maintaining a tidy, professional workspace.
High-quality, adjustable ergonomic chairs were specified to enhance employee comfort. These included features such as height adjustment, seat depth adjustment, lumbar support, active seating control, and gel-cushioned, height-adjustable armrests.
Meeting rooms were equipped with tables featuring integrated power outlets, HDMI, and data connections to support both in-house and online meetings. This setup ensures seamless collaboration and connectivity for all types of gatherings.

The chosen furniture featured a low-reflective white MFC surface with a 2mm high-impact contrasting edge for added durability and a modern look. This finish was also applied to desk-high storage units, maintaining design continuity throughout the space. Splashes of Taylor Wimpey’s brand colours were incorporated into the sound-absorbing desk dividers, contributing both visual interest and acoustic benefits. Soft seating and breakout areas created versatile spaces for flexible working and informal meetings.

In line with Taylor Wimpey’s commitment to sustainability, recycling was a significant focus. Custom recycling units were designed to match the overall office storage, promoting a streamlined, cohesive look while supporting sustainable practices.

Decor elements highlighting Taylor Wimpey’s commitment to customer service and quality were added throughout the space, reinforcing the company’s core values. The entire project—from concept to completion—spanned approximately six months, culminating in an office environment that is efficient, aesthetically pleasing, and reflective of Taylor Wimpey’s brand.
